The Drama Beast also offers the more formal LAMDA classes to students aged 8 or over. LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) is one of the oldest and most successful drama organisations. They have been offering practical examinations in speech, drama, performance and communication for over 130 years.
Where The Drama Beast drama clubs are not about grades and certification, the LAMDA classes are about achievement and rewarding the hard work and effort of the student. Our LAMDA teacher is highly experienced in teaching the syllabus to children of all ages, with proven results. However, the high grades are never achieved by putting pressure on a student so that the process of learning stops becoming fun, but they are reached by working closely with the student (usually on a 1 to 1 basis), utilising specific exercises and rehearsing selected extracts and pieces.
These qualifications are accredited by the QCA (Qualifications and Curriculum Authority), providing nationally recognised qualifications. They are available to everyone, regardless of ability and background. For students who struggle with confidence and self-esteem, to those with a real passion for drama, the LAMDA classes help to improve communication through the spoken word and practical performance with a view to achieving certification and personal attainment.
LAMDA offers a wide range of examinations and here at The Drama Beast, students have the opportunity to prepare for exams within the following syllabuses:
- Speaking of Verse and Prose
- Reading for Performance
- Public Speaking
